Work on Dh200 million landfill site begins in UAQ
UMM AL QUWAIN // Work on the first phase of a Dh200 million landfill site has begun.
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment said the 562,000 square metre project will be completed by 2017.
The Department of Planning and Survey in Umm Al Quwain has set aside the land for the site in Al Madfaq, on Al Ittihad Road near Ras Al Khaimah.
The site will be managed and supervised by the ministry, which also put a project out to tender last year for the construction of two waste treatment and waste-to-energy conversion plants in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, said Essa Al Hashimi, assistant undersecretary at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
The plants will serve the needs of Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah residents and the winning tenders will be announced soon.
