"Only in 2010 the amount of damage will amount to 5.7 billion rubles. It is expected that the effects of disaster impact in 2011 due to a shortage of seed for sowing and fodder for the content of farm animals," - said in a statement .

According to the press service, from July 3 in the region on the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Chuvash introduced state of emergency.

"This decision was taken due to the winter and abnormally hot, dry summer weather, which caused the death of crops "- explains the press office. Extremely low winter temperatures in the absence of snow cover resulted in a massive planting of winter crops on the area that constitutes 64% of the total area sown to winter crops. Settled in this year's arid hot weather has created a critical situation in the agriculture of the republic. According to meteorological centers, supply of moisture in the soil has reached a critical level - below 20%. 


Cabinet Chuvashia, including priority measures instructed the State Committee of Civil Defence and Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Agriculture to develop a plan for reduce the extent of damage caused by the emergency.

Currently state of emergency was introduced in eight of the 14 regions of the Volga Federal District.
